Razmik Panossian’s Interview in Aztag Daily Newspaper
Razmik Panossian gave a long interview on December 10th to the Beirut-based Aztag newspaper, outlining some of the activities related to Western Armenian which the Armenian Communities Department has been involved with during the past year. He also explained some aspects of the philosophy behind the Department’s approach. Importantly, he noted that the revitalisation of Western Armenian should be diaspora-centred, that the key problem that needs to be addressed is the issue of the transmission of the language to young generations (instead of seeking linguistic perfection), and that there is a need to start thinking of ways to separate language teaching from Armenian history and culture courses, so that the language becomes a means to discover the world instead of being confined only to Armenian-related subjects.
